Inside the Florentine Dinner Party That Had Everyone Lingering at the Table

There is a particular kind of evening that stays with you—one where the table is set just right, the conversation flows easily, and every detail feels considered without feeling precious. On February 5, we had the pleasure of hosting exactly that kind of night at the Kathy Kuo Design Showroom in Tribeca.

Together with Jenny and Freddie Cipoletti, we gathered an intimate group of sixteen around the table to celebrate the magic of our Florentine Collection. The evening was infused with the warmth and artistry of Tuscany, from the  music that greeted guests at the door to the Italian-inspired menu that featured artisanal ingredients from Cucina Cipoletti. Whether you're here for a glimpse behind the table, a closer peek at the collection, or are simply looking for a little inspiration for your next gathering, I’m glad you pulled up a chair.

The Graceful Flow of a Truly Special Dinner Party

As soon as they stepped inside, everyone was given a warm welcome with glasses of prosecco and Cucina Cipoletti's signature Olive Oil Martini, a drink that immediately set the tone: innovative, but rooted in Italian traditions. While conversation began to bloom, guests moved through the showroom, taking in styled vignettes featuring pieces from the Florentine Collection before being seated for a dinner that was as beautiful as it was generous.

Rich and indulgent, the entire menu was carefully curated and made with love. After a toast was given and glasses were clinked, a starter of creamy burrata with fresh tomato and basil arrived alongside olive and rosemary focaccia—simple ingredients, perfectly composed. From there, two pasta dishes warmed guests from the inside out: Cucina Cipoletti's Fusilloni Cacio e Pepe, that Roman classic of pecorino and cracked black pepper, and their Mezze Maniche Ragù finished with fresh parmesan. Bistecca alla Fiorentina with broccoli rabe was served as the main—a nod to the collection's namesake and the unfussy elegance that characterizes Florentine cooking at its best. Dessert brought a Principessa cake alongside vanilla gelato, finished with Cucina Cipoletti sea salt and a slow drizzle of Sicilian olive oil. It was the kind of ending that makes everyone linger just a little longer at the table.

The Lasting Beauty of Our Florentine Collection

The Florentine Collection itself was the quiet heart of the evening—present in every corner of the room, grounding the space with the kind of beauty that doesn't demand attention so much as reward it.

"What does a space feel like when it’s been lived in and loved over generations? That’s the soul of the Florentine Collection to me: pieces with a story, collected over time and artfully layered, items that elevate a room simply by belonging in it."

The collection draws from the visual language of Renaissance Italy: architectural proportion, hand-applied finishes, and natural materials rich in tactile beauty. It is deeply Italian in spirit, and deeply livable in practice. I truly love this collection so much, I redesigned my apartment around it… more on this soon!

How to Host a Dinner Party Worth Remembering

An evening like this one doesn't happen by accident. A few principles guided the night, and they're ones worth keeping in mind the next time you gather people around your own table.

1. Keep the guest list intimate.

Sixteen people is not a small number, but it is a considered one. There is a threshold beyond which a dinner becomes a party, and connection becomes harder to sustain. When you can actually hear the person across from you, the evening takes on a different quality entirely.

2. Let the room invite you in.

Comfortable furniture and thoughtful styling create a welcoming atmosphere before a single guest arrives. For this evening, that meant a plush velvet sofa topped with soft throw pillows, marble coffee tables perfect for resting your drink, and towering woven lamps casting a warm glow over the entire scene. It's the kind of vignette that invites people to sit down, slow down, and actually talk to each other, which is exactly the point. When guests feel comfortable in a space before they ever reach the table, the whole evening shifts.

3. Anchor the table with texture and candlelight.

A long damask runner, a mix of upholstered chairs, layered place settings in warm whites and rich greens, and tiered candelabras down the full length of the table—this is what makes a dinner feel like an occasion. Fresh fruit and loose florals as the centerpiece create a look that’s abundant without feeling overly arranged.

4. Compose a menu with a natural rhythm.

The most memorable dinners move through the meal with intention—something light and fresh to open, a course or two that builds warmth and comfort, a main that feels considered and generous, and a dessert that sends everyone home happy. For this dinner, no single dish had to carry the whole evening because each one had a clear role to play. That's the difference between a menu that was assembled and one that was curated.

5. Choose ingredients with a point of view.

Jenny and Freddie brought Cucina Cipoletti's pantry to the table—Sicilian olive oil, finishing sea salt, and artisanal pasta. When the food has a story, it becomes part of the conversation. The Florentine Collection is available now at kathykuohome.com. I hope it finds its way into your heart and home.
