It was in need of a major design facelift in order to make it the cozy-chic and family-friendly haven that Alisa envisioned. So when she started on her design journey, Alisa knew she had a couple essentials: “The biggest musts were light, and \u003C/span>\u003Ca href=\"https://www.kathykuohome.com/kids?utm_source=social&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=alisamall\">\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">areas where my kids could play\u003C/span>\u003C/a>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> comfortably…where we could relax really comfortably and be at ease,” she explains.\u003C/span>\u003C/span>\r\n\r\n\u003Cspan style=\"font-family: opensans-regular;\">\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first order of business was to give the whole space a fresh coat of paint–we used \u003C/span>\u003Ca href=\"https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/color-overview/find-your-color/color/oc-65/chantilly-lace?color=OC-65\">\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chantilly Lace from Benjamin Moore\u003C/span>\u003C/a>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is one of my personal favorite paint colors since it’s not too cool and not too warm. \u003C/span>\u003C/span>\r\n\r\n\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: opensans-regular;\">“We used Chantilly Lace for not only the walls, but also for the fireplaces throughout the house–that gave the space such a face-lift,” explains our design team. “The fresh white paint color really allowed light to come into the space and bounce off the walls. What used to feel very heavy became a really light and bright palette.”\u003C/span>\r\n\r\n\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: opensans-regular;\">Alisa also opened some of the walls, lightened the ceiling beams, stained the floor, and updated a lot of lighting–all of which was very transformative. The home features several fireplaces and she was eager to make use of them on chilly evenings for family time during cocktail hour or after dinner. \u003C/span>\r\n\r\n\u003Cspan style=\"font-family: opensans-regular;\">\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">“With the fireplaces in the home, I had visions of us having night caps by the fire–I wanted the space to be conducive to that, and so far it has proven to be,” Alisa says of her vision for the \u003C/span>\u003Ca href=\"https://www.kathykuohome.com/Product/ProductList/living-room/?utm_source=social&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=alisamall\">\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">living room\u003C/span>\u003C/a>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. “We got some very \u003C/span>\u003Ca href=\"https://www.kathykuohome.com/Product/Detail/41625-David-Modern-Classic-Dark-Brown-Leather-Black-Iron-Occasional-Arm-Chair?utm_source=social&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=alisamall\">\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">comfortable leather chairs\u003C/span>\u003C/a>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and a \u003C/span>\u003Ca href=\"https://www.kathykuohome.com/Product/Detail/56099-Ethan-Modern-Classic-Cream-Performance-Sofa?utm_source=social&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=alisamall\">\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">couch\u003C/span>\u003C/a>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and we sit there every single weekend–we gather by the fire and the adults \u003C/span>\u003Ca href=\"https://www.kathykuohome.com/blog/the-kathy-kuo-home-glassware-guide-cocktail-glasses/?utm_source=social&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=alisamall\">\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have a drink\u003C/span>\u003C/a>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
